Welded Steel Frames

After an initial survey of the building stock and its problems, this research will assess the performance characteristics of welded steel frame assemblies by insitu or laboratory testing of original or reconstructed specimens. Their measured properties will then be incorporated in finite element models of complete structures, and these in turn used to predict the probable performance when subjected to earthquake. Remedial measures will then be determined and retrofitted specimens tested to ensure efficacy.
